John Faulkner

a.k.a. John Wesley Thompson Faulkner III

Died: Mar. 28, 1963 - Oxford, Mississippi, USA

A younger brother of William Faulkner, he was educated at Ole Miss where he received a B.S in civil engineering. He worked for a time as an assistant engineer in Greenville and then as a project engineer with the Mississippi State Highway Department. In 1922, he married Lucile Ramey and they would have two sons. They moved to Memphis, Tennessee and John became a commercial airline pilot. He moved back to Mississippi in 1938 and took over the management of brother William's farm. It was here that he developed his fascination with rural farmers. During World War II he was commissioned in the U.S. Navy. His first published novel was Men Working 1941, which was quite popular. He would write up until his death from a stroke. His final work was My Brother Bill:An Affectionate Reminiscence in 1963. His other works include Dollar Cotton (1942), Chooky (1950), Cabin Road (1951), Uncle Good's Girls (1952), The Sin Shouter of Cabin Road (1955), Ain't Gonna Rain No More (1959), Uncle Good's Weekend Party (1960) and Beat Six (1999 Posthumous).
