Julius Long

a.k.a. Julius W. Long

Born: (?), 1907 - Logan County, Ohio, USA

Died: Jul. 22, 1955 - Logan County, Ohio, USA

Educated at Columbus University in Ohio and Ohio State University, where he graduated in 1931. His first published story seems to be The Dead Man's Story which appeared in Weird Tales in September 1933. He realized some success over the next year, publishing some additional stories. He then didn't publish again until 1937. In 1939, he was admitted to the bar and joined his father's firm of Long & Long. From that year until 1942, he again ceased publishing. He began producing work in the detective genre and he was extremely prolific over the next few years. His only novel, Keep the Coffins Coming, appeared in 1947. Long also produced some non-fiction during the early 1950s, such as concerning guns in Field and Stream. He died in his sleep, allegedly from an asthmatic condition. His work includes Possession (1934), The Pale Man (1934), Death's Dancing Master(1937), The Empress of Terror (1938), School for the Dying (1938), Merely Murder (1944), Blind Bogey (1944) and Over My Dead Booty (1945).
