Ercole Luigi Morselli

Author Code: TELM

Born: Feb. 19, 1882 - Pesaro, Italy

Died: Mar. 16, 1921 - Rome, Italy

Morselli moved to Florence when he was nine and was educated there. He spent two years at university studying medicine and letters, but left without a degree. Nevertheless, he did meet and befriend Prezzolini and Papini, the latter who would later aid him in his career. When he was 20, he took a sea voyage that would take him to Cape Horn, Buenos Aires, Cornwall, London and Paris. After returning to Italy, he founded Mercurio, a large review that ran for five years. He had some success as a playwright with plays such as The Prison. He also produced shor stories in addition to his plays. World War I interrupted his career and, suffering from tuberculosis, Morselli passed away early in 1921. His works include Favoli per i re d'oggi (1909), Orione (1910), Water Upon Fire (1910), Gastone the Animal Trainer (1911), Stories to Laugh...and to Cry (1918), Glanco (1919), Tales and Fantasies (1928 Posthumous), Belfagor (1933 Posthumous) and The Inn of the Cripples and Other Stories (1936 Posthumous).
