Bellem's initial career seems to have been as a journalist. He later became one of the most prolific of pulp writers, publishing over 3000 short stories and at least two novels. His most famous character was detective Dan Turner. When the pulp business dried up in the 1950s, Bellem became a scriptwriter for TV and continued in that area until the late 1960s. He wrote for numerous shows, including The F.B.I, Perry Mason, 77 Sunset Strip, Broken Arrow, and The Lone Ranger, to name just a few.His works include Warned (1926), Brains (1927), Forgotten Flights (1929), Pressing Business (1931), Susan Surrenders (1932), Murder by Proxy (1934), Blood Pearls (1936), Monster's Menace (1940), A Comet Passes (1942), Coffin Frame (1944), Killer's Disease (1948), Shells of Justice (1950) and The Glass Noose (1952).
