Ellery Queen is a pseudonym, created by Frederic Dannay (Daniel Nathan, Oct. 20, 1905 - Sep. 3, 1982) and Manfred Bennington Lee (Emanuel Benjamin Lepofsky, Jan. 11, 1905 - Apr. 3, 1971). Queen appears in hundreds of crime novels over a period of 42 years and became one of America's best-selling detectives. In 1941, Mercury Press launched The Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine which is still in production today. Queen works resulted in over 10 films and a TV Series which ran in 1975-76. Their works include The Roman Hat Mystery (1929), The French Powder Mystery (1930), The Dutch Shoe Mystery (1931), The Greek Coffin Mystery (1932), The Spanish Cape Mystery (1935), The Perfect Crime (1942), The Murderer is a Fox (1945), Cat of Many Tails (1949), The King is Dead (1952), The Finishing Stroke (1958), The Fourth Side of the Triangle (1965), A Study in Terror (1966) and A Fine and Private Place (1971). There were also ten volumes of short stories. |
