D. D. Sharp

a.k.a. Drury Dubose Sharp

Born: Nov. 10, 1886 - Queen City, Texas, USA

Died: Aug. 25, 1960 - Albequerque, New Mexico, USA

Sharp was a farmer moving through various towns in Texas until finally settling in New Mexico. He published his first story, The Goddess of the Painted Priests in Weird Tales in 1929. He went on to contribute stories to the major SF magazines of the day over the next two decades. His most famous story, The Eternal Man, was published in Science Wonder Stories in 1929. Since then, it has been repeatedly re-printed. During the 1930s, Sharp worked for the Federal Writers' Project of the WPA, where he wrote about New Mexico history and people. His many works include In the Toils of the Black Kiva (1929), The Satellite of Doom (1931), At Bay in the Void (1933), Captive of the Crater (1933), Doom Doctor (1936), The Indesinent Stykal (1937), Faster Than Light (1939), The Lodestone Core (1940), The Girl From Venus (1941), Children of the Gods (1943) and Prayer Stick Vengeance (1957).
