T. T. Flynn

a.k.a. Theodore Thomas Flynn

Author Code: ATTF

Born: Aug. 8, 1902 - Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

Died: Jan. 8, 1979 - Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA

Educated at the Indianapolis Technical High School, Flynn joined the merchant navy after graduation. After six years at various jobs, he married Mary Cecilia Derene in 1924 and returned to America where he took a job with the railroad. It was at this time that he began to write, mostly sea stories from his own experiences, and submitted these to the pulp magazines. In 1925, he was fired from the railroad and so began to devote his time to writing. With his wife suffering from TB, they moved to New Mexico in 1928, settling in Santa Fe. His wife died later that year and he re-married the following year. Flynn's primary genre was detective stories, at which he excelled, but in the 1930s he began producing westerns. In 1955, he wrote the classic The Man From Laramie, later made into a successful film starring Jimmy Stewart. His writing declined during the 1960s. His works include Battle Across the Islands (1929), Barrel Size (1932), The Golden Cipher (1934), House of Dread (1935), Help or Hang (1941), Hunted Wolf! (1949), It's Murder (1950), Two Faces West (1954), The Angry Man (1956), The Man From Nowhere (1958) and Riding High (1961).
