a.k.a. Norbert Harrison Davis

Author Code: ANHD

Born: Apr. 18, 1909 - Morrison, Illinois, USA

Educated in law at Stanford University, Davis received his law degree in 1934, but never practised law. He began contributing stories to the pulps in 1932. His first story published in Black Mask magazine was Reform Racket. Davis became a member of the Fictioneers, a pulp oriented group. Raymond Chandler became a fan of Davis' stories and was also his neighbour in Los Angeles. He created the character of Max Latin in Dime Detective. Early in 1949, Davis moved to Salisbury,Connecticut. For some unknown reason, Davis took a trip to Harwich, Massachusetts on July 28 and committed suicide there, only 40 years old. His many works include Red Goose (1934), Trip to Vienna (1935), Blue Bullets (1936), Medicine for Murder (1937), Sand in the Snow (1939), Hang Him High (1941), You Bet Your Life (1942), The Mouse in the Mountain (1943), Sally's in the Alley (1943), Oh, Murder Mine (1946) and Murder Picks the Jury (1947).
