Robert Silverberg

Born: Jan. 15, 1935 - Brooklyn, New York, USA

Educated at Columbia University, where he received a BA in English Literature in 1956, Silverberg began writing stories whilst in his teens. In fact, his first novel, Revolt on Alpha C, was published while he was still at Columbia in 1955. He was extremely prolific and also collaborated on may stories and novels during the 1960s and 1970s. He moved to the West Coast in 1972 after a fire at his home in New York. In 1975, he announced his early retirement, however, he returned in 1980 with Lord Valentine's Castle. During his long and illustrious career, Silverberg has won numerous awards including the Hugo, Locus and Nebula and was elected to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame in 1999. His many works include Master of life and Death (1957), Aliens From Space (1958), The Plot Against Earth (1959), Next Stop the Stars (1962), Regan's Planet (1964), To Open the Sky (1967), Valley Beyond Time (1973), The Shores of Tomorrow (1976), Lord of Darkness (1983), Beyond the Safe Zone (1986), The New Springtime (1990), The Longest Way Home (2002) and In the Beginning (2006).
