Clifford D. Simak

Born: Aug. 3, 1904 - Millville, Wisconsin, USA

Died: Apr. 25, 1988 - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

Educated at the University of Wisconsin, Simak then taught in the public schools until he turned to journalism in 1929. He worked for the Minneapolis Star and Tribune from 1939 until 1976. In 1931, he published The World of the Red Sun in Wonder Stories magazine. He was a regular contributor to Astounding Stories, but also produced westerns and war stories for various pulp magazines. He was well-liked among his peers and became close friends with Isaac Asimov. He received the Novel Hugo award in 1964 for Way Station and in 1953 received the International Fantasy Award for best SF novelette, City. In 198 he received a lifetime achievement award from the SFWA. His other works include The Creator (1935), Empire (1951), Strangers in the Universe (1956), They Walked Like Men (1962), World without End (1964), The Werewolf Principle (1967), Cemetary World (1973), Mastadonia (1978), The Visitors (1980), Highway of Eternity (1986) and Brother and Other Stories (1986).
