Began his musical career with a concert performance at the age of nine that was so well-received that he was sent to Vienna to study under Czerny. In 1826, still only twelve, he undertook a concert tour of Hungary, Poland and Germany. In 1838, he settled in Paris and became friends with many of the great composers and musicians of the day, includin Chopin, Liszt and Halle. He made a living in Paris teaching and giving performances of his many pianoforte pieces. In 1849, and again in 1862, he toured England, giving performances at, among other locations, the Crystal Palace. Today, the best-known works remain his Studies. |
