Rostand was a very successful playwright immediately prior to the First World War, whose greatest drama, and the one which is indelibly linked to his name, was Cyranno de Bergerac (1897). He wrote many other plays, but only a few are remembered. In addition to Cyranno, it include L'Aiglon (1900) and Chantecler (1910).
