Pyle was educated in art at the Art Students' League in New York. He illustrated numerous magazines and books during the turn of the century, including his own works of children's stories and fairy tales. Many of Pyle's novels are considered classics, such as The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood (1883), Otto of the Silver Hand (1888), Jack Ballister's Fortunes (1895), Pepper and Salt (1886), The Wonder Clock (1888) and the Garden Behind the Moon (1895). In 1911, Pyle went to Italy for further art studies, but died shortly after arriving. |
