Educated at Wilmington College, Ohio, where he graduated in 1926. He married Phoebe Dwiggins in 1936. He became a prolific writer in the Westerns and Mystery genres. He also contributed scripts to television. He wrote primarily for Black Mask magazine under the name of W. T. Ballard. During the 1950s, he wrote numerous screenplays for TV, such as Death Valley Days. His works include Say Yes to Murder (1942), Murder Can't Stop (1947), Two-Edged Vengeance (1951), Walk in Fear (1952), Guns of the Lawless (1956), Fury in the Heart (1959), Gold in California! (1965), Lassiter (1968), Loco and the Wolf (1973), Trails of Rage (1975) and The Sheriff of Tombstone (1977). |
