After leaving school, Harben began a career as a merchant which he continued until he moved to New York in 1888. Thereafter he devoted his time to writing, publishing his first book, White Marie, in 1889. Controversial at the time, White Marie, raised issues concerning negro slavery. His other works include Northern Georgia Sketches (1900), Abner Daniel (1902), Ann Boyd (1906), The Triumph (1917) and The Divine Event (1920). |
