Educated at St. Petersburg University he left school in 1860 to become a full-time writer. He moved to Warsaw in Poland in 1863 and began work on his first novel, The Slums of Saint Petersburg, published in 1864 and was widely popular. In his earlier days, he had contributed to various periodicals, such as Notes of the Fatherland. During the 1880s, Krestovsky developed strong anti-semetic views and this led to his production of the trilogy The Jews Are Coming (Three volumes 1888-92). His other works include The Flock of Panuge(1869) and The Force (1874.
