Ludwig von Arnim

a.k.a. Ludwig Achim von Arnim

Author Code: GLVA

Born: Jan. 26, 1781 - Berlin, Germany

Died: Jan. 21, 1831 - Wiepersdorf, Brandenburg, Germany

Educated at the University of Halle where he studied natural science, von Arnim was always more interested in literature. In 1806, in collaboration with Clemens Brentano, he published Des Knaben Wunderhorn, a collection of German traditional legends and folk songs, which became very popular. He married Brentano's sister Bettina, who would also go on to become a famous author in her own right. Arnims other works, which included plays, poems and novels are mostly forgotten today, but many of his short stories are excellent examples of German prose fiction.
