George Byron

a.k.a. Lord George Gordon Byron

Born: Jan. 22, 1788 - London, England

Died: Apr. 19,1824 - Missolonghi, Greece

Byron was educated at Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge. He then toured Europe with a friend during 1809 to 1811. In 1812 he assumed his seat in the House of Lords as the Sixth Lord Baron Byron and delivered his maiden speech. From 1812 to 1816, he published Childe Harold's Pilgrimage, The Giaour, The Bride of Abydos, The Siege of Corinth and numerous other works. In 1816, after being separated from his wife of one year, Byron left England and remained abroad the rest of his life. Byron's other important work includes Don Juan (1819), Heaven and Earth (1822), Werner (1822), The Island (1823), The Age of Bronze (1823) and The Deformed Transformed (1824) . Byron also produced a series of dramas. Setting out to join the Greeks in their struggle for independence, Byron was struck down by a fever and died in 1824.
