a.k.a. Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus

Author Code: CGST

Born: c. 69 AD - Rome, Italy

Died: c. 140 AD - Rome, Italy

Born into a family of equestrian rank, Suetonius practiced law for a time, was made a tribune through the influence of Pliny, and was secretary to the emperor Hadrian. His writings include De Viris Illustribus (Concerning Illustrious Men), a collection of short biographies, and De vita Caesarum (The Lives of the Caesars), relating the lives of the first twelve Roman emperors. Suetonius also wrote works on natural history, linguistics, politics and biography, however, most have been lost and only fragments of these works exist. The Lives of the Caesars is complete apart from the first few chapters of Julius which were lost between the 6th and 8th centuries AD.
