George Goodchild

a.k.a. Alan Dare *, Wallace Q. Reid *, Jesse Templeton *

Author Code: EGGC

Born: (?), 1888 - Kingston upon Thames, England

Died: Mar. 25, 1969 - Guildford, England

There is very little information on Goodchild's early years. It is known that he worked in journalism and at a publishing house before turning to writing full-time. He edited a number of works during the First World War, including England, My England (1914) a war anthology. His first novel, The Last Cruise of the Majestic, appeared in 1917. From then until his death, Goodchild was an extremely prolific author, producing novels, story collections, plays and movies. He is responsible for over 200 works and the introduction of characters such as Inspector McLean, Trelawney and Trooper O'Neill. It is unfortunate that he is not more popular today. His many works include The Woolen Monkey (1920), Colorado Jim (1922), Hurricane Tex (1925), The Rain on the Roof (1928), McLean of Scotland Yard (1929), Her Little Game (1933), Having No Hearts (1937), Q33-Spy Catcher (1937), Hail McLean (1945), Double Acrostic (1954), False Intruder, Old Yukon (1960), Savage Encounter (1962) and McLean Takes Over (1967).
