Born: Apr. 29, 1872 - Fredrikstad, Norway

Died: Dec. 24, 1932 - Oslo, Norway

Educated in music under Iver Holter at the Music Conservatory in Oslo, then with Carl Reinecke in Leipzig. His first symphony premiered in 1896 and resulted in the award of a scholarship to study composition in Berlin with Julius Ruthardt. During this time he produced several piano pieces. Like Grieg, Alnaes produced numerous collections of songs and became one of Scandinavia's most performed composer of songs. He spent thirty-seven years as an organist in several churches in and around Oslo. He was also a choirmaster and music teacher. He helped to found the Norwegian Society of Composers. He produced two symphonies, a piano concerto and chamber and piano music.
