Author Code: ESWJ

Born: Nov. 25, 1899 - London, England

Died: Mar. 10, 1989 - The Far House, Liss, Hampshire, England

The son of mystery writer Edgar Jepson, he was educated at St. Paul's School in London and the Sorbonne in Paris. Jepson served as an officer in the Tank Corps in 1918. Following the war, he travelled extensively in Europe and published his first stories in 1921. The following year he published his first novel, The Qualified Adventurer, which became a film in 1925. He had a great deal of success during the 1930s, but had to temporarily stop writing when the Second World War broke out. He was recruited for the newly formed Special Operations Executive (SOE) and rose to the rank of major. He functioned as a security officer for the French section and was very successful in that role. Following the war, he returned to writing and also became a respected screenwriter with a number of films to his credit. His works include That Fellow MacArthur (1922), Golden Eyes (1924), I Met Murder (1930), The Riverside Murders (1934), Keep Murder Quiet (1940), Man Running (1948), The Assassin (1956), Fear in the Wind (1964), The Hungry Spider (1964), Dead Letters (1970) and The Gill Interrogators (1974).
