Isaac Goldberg

Died: Jul. 14, 1938 - Brookline, Massachusetts, USA

Educated at Harvard University, Goldberg received his BA in 1910, an MA in 1911 and his PhD the following year. During the First World War, he spent time in Europe as a correspondent for the Boston Evening Transcript. Goldberg was a talented multi-linguist and, as such, undertook numerous translation into English. He also wrote many biographies and books on musical appreciation. From 1923 to 1932 he was the literary editor at the American Freeman and from 1930 to 1932, music editor for the American Mercury. From 1931 to 1932, he was a special lecturer in Hispanic-American literature at Harvard. His works include Don Jose Echegaray: A Study in Modern Spanish Drama (1912), Sir. Wm. S. Gilbert (1913), Brazilian Tales (1921), Drama of Transition (1922), Dante, an Aesthetic View (1923), Guide to Cervantes (1923), Enjoyment of Music (1925), Spirit of Yiddish Literature (1925), Tin Pan Alley (1930), Major Noah (1936) and What We Laugh At, and Why (1938).
