Ernst Zahn

Author Code: OEZN

Born: Jan. 24, 1867 - Zurich, Switzerland

Died: Feb. 12, 1952 - Meggen, Switzerland

Educated at the Zurich gymnasium and the Breidenstein International Boys' School at Goschenen, Zahn also spent a year studying English in England. During the early 1900s, Zahn managed a restaurant which he had inherited from his father in 1897. He also became a judge of the Uri Criminal Court in 1902, followed in 1904 by election to the Uri Cantonal Council. In 1909, he was awarded an honorary PhD by the University of Geneva. Whilst Zahn produced a number of works, beginning with Erni Behaim in 1893, it wasn't until 1917 that he devoted his time entirely to writing. He was one of the contributors to the Heimatkunst movement in Switzerland. His works include Mountain Folk (1896), Albin Indergand (1901), Herrgottsfaden (1901), Weekday Heroes (1906), What Life Breaks (1912), Frau Sixta (1926) and The Large Lesson (1943).
