Died: Aug. 5, 1947 - London, England

The son of politician H.H. Asquith, Herbert was educated at Winchester and Balliol College, Oxford, where he was president of the Oxford Union. He was called to the bar in 1907 and practised law until entering military service in the First World War as a captain in the Royal Artillery. He wrote four novels, four volumes of poetry and a memoir as follows: A Village Sermon and Other Poems (1920), Wind's End (1924), Pillicock Hill (1926), Young Orland (1927), Roon (1929), Mary Dallon (1932), Poems: 1912-1933 (1934) and Moments of Memory (1938).
