Died: Apr. 25, 1943 - Moscow, Russia

Educated at Moscow State University, Nemirovich left school in 187 in order to work in the theatre, initially as a theatre critic. In 1881, he published his first play, Dog-Rose, which was subsequently performed at the Maly Theatre in Moscow. In 1919, he established the Moscow Art Theatre which later became the Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theatre. In 1936, he was awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR and in 1942 and 1943 received the USSR State Prize, Order of Lenin and the Order of the Red Banner of Labour. In 1943, he established the Moscow Art Theatre School which still flourishes today. His works include Personal Reminiscences of General Skobeleff (1884), Peasant Tales of Russia (1917) and My Life in the Russian Theatre (1936).
