F. S. Flint

a.k.a. Frank Stuart Flint

Author Code: EFSF

Born: Dec. 19, 1885 - Islington, London, England

Died: Feb. 28, 1960 - Berkshire, England

Primarily self-educated, Flint left school when he was 13 and worked at various jobs before joining the Civil Service in 1904. In 1909, he published his first book of poems, In the Net of the Stars, which was well-received. He privately studied French poetic techniques and became one of Britain's foremost authorities on the subject. His contact with Ezra Pound and T.E. Hulme led to his interest in Imagism and the subsequent publication of Cadences in 1915. His third and final collection of poetry, Otherworld appeared in 1920. Although he continued to contribute articles and criticism to literary periodicals, his poetic output ceased. After 1937, he ceased publishing altogether. Besides his three poetry collections and his contributory articles, Flint was a prolific translator of German, French and Classical authors.
