Barack Obama

a.k.a. Barack Hussein Obama

Author Code: ABHO

Born: Aug. 4, 1961 - Honolulu, Hawaii, USA

Educated at Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he became the editor of the Harvard Law Review, Obama graduated magna cum laude in 1991. He then spent two years as Visiting Law and Government Fellow at the University of Chicago Law School before becoming a lecturer in late 1992 and a senior lecturer in constitutional law from 1996 to 2004. Obama also worked for various law firms and served on a number of influential committees during this period. In 1992, he married Michelle Robinson, a Chicago native and an accomplished lawyer in her own right. In 1996, Obama was elected to the Illinois Senate and was subsequently re-elected in 1998 and 2002, gaining a solid reputation in the areas of civil rights, health care and senate ethics. In 2004 he was elected to the U.S. Senate and was one of its most active members. He ran for president in 2008 and won over Republican John McClain with 52.9% of the popular vote, becoming the first black President in U.S. history. Unfortunately, he took office during one of the greatest economic crises to face any president. In 2012, Obama was re-elected after defeating Mitt Romney in a close-run race. Obama's works include Dreams From My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance (1995) and The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream (2006).
