Arminius was a minister of the Dutch Reformed Church and spent many years in conflict with the views on predestination held by the Calvinists. He developed his own beliefs on predestination which became known as Arminianism. The works of Arminius, Opera Theologica, were not published until 20 years after his death. Arminianism gained a strong following and was subsequently influential in the development of Methodism in England and the USA.
