Pierre Benoit

Author Code: FPBN

Born: Jul 16, 1886 - Albi, France

Died: Mar. 3, 1962 - Ciboure, France

The son of a French soldier, Benoit spent a number of years in the military, including time in North Africa. In 1918, he published Koeningsmark and followed in 1919 with his best-known work L'Atlantide. The latter was translated into English as Atlantida and Queen of Atlantis during the 1920's. The book won the Grand Prize of the Academie Francaise. Benoit was elected to the Academie in 1931. None of his subsequent works achieved the success of l'Atlantide, however, Benoit did continue to write until his death. His other works include The Forgotten Man (1922), The Leper King (1927), Axelle (1928), The Midnight Sun (1930), The Man Who Was Too Tall (1936), Moonkeep (1942), Aino (1948), Lost City (1954) and Montsalvat (1957).
