E. R. Punshon

a.k.a. Ernest Robertson Punshon, Robertson Halkett *

Author Code: EERP

Born: (?) 1872 - (?) England

Died: (?) 1956 - (?) England

Punshon worked as a literary critic for The Guardian among others, but is best known as a fine writer of detective fiction. He published his first book, Earth's Great Lord, in 1901, but it wasn't until a decade later that his work became widely read and praised. He remained a popular detective author until his death. A very neglected writer, Punshon's works show enormous and powerful imagination and the creation of exemplary detection situations. His primary characters included Inspector Carter, Sergeant Bell and constable Bobby Owen. His works include The Mystery of Lady Isobel (1907), The Spin of the Coin (1908), Arrows of Chance (1917), The Woman's Footprint (1919), The Bittermeads Mystery (1922), The Cottage Murder (1931), Genius in Murder (1932), Mystery Villa (1934), Murder Abroad (1939), Night's Cloak (1944), Helen Passes By (1947), Strange Ending (1953) and Six Were Present (1956).
