Quentin Reynolds

Author Code: AQRS

Born: Apr. 11, 1902 - New York City, New York, USA

Died: Mar. 17, 1965 - San Francisco, California, USA

Educated at Brown University, where he graduated with a PhB, Reynolds excelled in sports and even spent a year in professional football before returning to school to study for a degree in law. He became interested in journalism and began working as a reporter, later becoming a sports columnist. in 1933, he was sent by the International News Service to cover the rise of Hitler and Nazism in Germany. His articles on the subject were scathing and the German authorities objected to his presence. Reynolds then joined Collier's Magazine and formed a union that lasted for fifteen years. During that time he contributed over 300 articles and short stories. He was assigned to cover the outbreak of World War II and spent time in France before fleeing to England. There he developed a great respect and admiration for the British people and an appreciation of their determination. This he expounded in a number of books published during this time including The Wounded Don't Cry (1941) and A London Diary (1941). In 1952, Reynolds was involved in a libel suit in which he won a settlement of over $175,000 - at that time the largest ever. he fell ill during a trip to Manila in the Philippines and was diagnosed with stomach cancer, which subsequently claimed his life. His other works include Convoy (1942), The Curtain Rises (1944), The Wright brothers (1950), Custer's Last Stand (1951), The FBI (1954), Winston Churchill (1963) and By Quentin Reynolds (1963).
