Edison Marshall

a.k.a. Edison Tesla Marshall

Born: Aug. 28, 1894 - Rensselaer, Indiana, USA

Died: Oct. 29, 1967 - Augusta, Georgia, USA

Educated at the University of Oregon, Marshall sold his first short story to Argosy magazine while still a freshman at college. He joined the US Army in 1918 and was commissioned a lieutenant, but did not see any overseas duty. Stationed in Georgia, he met and married Agnes Flyth and the couple returned to Oregon. In 1921, he won the O. Henry Award for his story The Heart of Little Shikara. He wrote many works with Oregon as a backdrop, but also traveled widely around the world gathering material for his books. In 1926, he moved to Georgia where he remained until his death. Marshall's works were very popular throughout his career and included credits for films such as The Vikings in 1958. He was also a regular short story contributor to magazines such as Harper's Bazaar and Reader's Digest. His works include The Voice of the Pack (1920), The Snowshoe Trail (1921), A Skyline of Spruce (1922), Benjamin Blake (1941), Yankee Pasha (1947), The Upstart (1950), The Viking (1951), Bengal Tiger (1952), The Pagan King (1959) and Cortez and Marina (1963).
