Gamaliel Bradford

a.k.a. Gamaliel Bradford VI

Author Code: AGLB

Born: Oct. 9, 1863 - Boston, Massachusetts, USA

Died: Apr. 11, 1932 - Wellsley, Massachusetts, USA

Educated at Harvard University and by private tutors, Bradford suffered from ill-health for most of his life. He tried for many years to establish himself as a poet, writer and playwright before finding his niche in biography. His Lee the American in 1912 received rave reviews and over the next twenty years he produced 114 biographies using his unique 'psychography' method which concentrated on the important and interesting traits of the individual. Bradford was descended from William Bradford, the first governor of Plymouth Colony. His other works include Types of American Character (1895), Pageant of Life Poems (1904), Confederate Portraits (1914), Portraits of Women (1916), Union Portraits (1916), American Portraits (1922), Damaged Souls (1923), Life and I (1928), As God Made Them (1929), Daughters of Eve (1930), The Quick and the Dead (1931) and Journal (1933 Posthumous).
