James Oppenheim

Author Code: AJOX

Born: May 24, 1882 - St. Paul, Minnesota, USA

Died: Aug. 4, 1932 - New York City, New York, USA

Educated at Columbia University, Oppenheim spent a number of years in various jobs including teaching before embarking on his writing career. His first work, Doctor Rast, was published in 1909. In 1916, he helped to found the literary magazine The Seven Arts, and acted as its editor until it failed in late 1917. He became a lay follower of Carl Jung and his psychoanalytic theories and went on to produce a number of works on the subject. During World War I Oppenheim was very much against American involvement and was subsequently blacklisted. He died from tuberculosis after many years of poverty. His other works include Monday Morning and Other Poems (1909), Wild Oats (1910), The Nine-Tenths (1911), Pay Envelopes (1911), Songs for the New Age (1914), War and Laughter (1916), Ghost of Old Morro (1917), Solitary (1919), Mystic Warrior (1921), Your Hidden Powers (1923), Psychology of Jung (1926), Psychoanalysis of the Jews (1926), Behind Your Front (1928) and American Types (1931).
