George W. Ogden

a.k.a. George Washington Ogden

Author Code: AGWO

Born: Dec. 9, 1871 - Lawrence, Kansas, USA

Died: Apr. 6, 1966 - Santa Monica, California, USA

Ogden evidently suffered much abuse as a child, primarily from his older brother. As soon as he was old enough he left home and went to Kansas City where he began working as a reporter. He also began contributing poetry to various periodicals. He moved up the ladder at the Kansas City Times, eventually becoming the city editor. In 1903, he published his first novel, Tennessee Todd, the first of 37 that he would go on to produce. Most of his work deals with the West. His works include Home Place (1912), Long Fight (1915), Rustler of Wind River (1917), Land of Last Chance (1919), Trail's End (1921), Flockmaster of Poison Creek (1921), Trail Rider (1924), Cherokee Trails (1928), White Roads (1932), Whisky Trail (1936), Stockyards Cowboy (1937), Windy Range (1938) and his autobiography There Were No Heroes (1940).
