Henry Sydnor Harrison

Born: Feb. 12, 1880 - Sewanee, Tennessee, USA

Died: Jul. 15, 1930 - Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA

Educated at Columbia University, Harrison graduated in 1900 and began contributing stories to magazines such as the Atlantic Monthly. During the next decade, Harrison worked as a journalist. His first novel, Captivating Mary Carstairs, appeared in 1910. The following year, he reached the best-seller list with Queed. In 1913, he was awarded an honorary master's degree from Columbia and in 1914 was elected a member of the National Institute of Arts & Letters. During the First World War in 1915, he spent a number of months as an ambulance driver for the Field Service in France. He died from complications arising during an operation. His other works include V.V.'s Eyes (1913), Angela's Business (1915), When I Come Back (1919), Saint Teresa (1922), Marriage (1923), Andrew Bride of Paris (1925) and Good Hope (1931 Posthumous).
