Fred M. White

a.k.a. Frederick Merrick White

Born: June (?), 1859 - West Bromwich, Birmingham, England

Died: December (?), 1935 - Barnstaple, England

British author who was a frequent contributor to leading periodicals of the early 1900's, including Strand Magazine and Pearson's Magazine. Today he is best remembered for his disaster series, The Doom of London, which appeared in Pearson's from 1903 to 1904 and consisted of The Four White Days, The Four Days' Night, The Dust of Death, A Bubble Burst, The Invisible Force and The River of Death. Very little is known of the life of White and he seems to have ceased publishing in 1930. He was a remarkably prolific author, producing over 70 novels and numerous short stories. His other works include The Cardinal Moth (1905), The Slave of Silence (1906), A Fatal Dose (1907), The Edge of the Sword (1908), The White Bride (1910), The House of Mammon (1914), The Salt of the Earth (1916), The Case for the Crown (1919), The Wings of Victory (1921), The Riddle of the Rail (1926), The Phantom Car (1929) and On the Night Express (1930).
