Alfred Lichtenstein

Born: (?) 1889 - Berlin, Germany

Died: Sep. 25, 1914 - Vermandevillers, Somme, France

Educated in law at the University of Berlin, Lichtenstein received his doctorate in 1913. Beginning around 1910, he began to publish his poetry, two volumes of which appeared during his lifetime.As one of the early German expressionists, his work has often been compared to that of Franz Kafka. In 1914, he entered military service and was sent to the Somme where he was killed in battle at Vermandevillers at the age of 25. Many editions of his work, including some prose, were published posthumously.
