Perceval Gibbon

Author Code: EPGB

Born: Nov. 4, 1879 - Trelech, Wales

Died: My 30, 1926 - Guernsey, Channel Islands

Educated at Baden in Germany, Gibbon traveled widely while he worked as a merchant marine. In 1898, he began working for the Rand Daily Mail in South Africa as a journalist and spent a number of years there. In 1905, he published Vrouw Grobelaar's Leading Cases, a collection of short stories in the detective genre, with the widow Grobelaar as the protagonist. The book proved immensely popular and was probably Gibbons' finest work. During the First World War, he spent time as a war correspondent attached to the Italian Army. In 1918, he was commissioned a major in the British Royal Marines. Gibbon was an excellent short-story writer and his works include African Items (1903), Souls in Bondage (1904), Salvator (1905), Flower o' the Peach (1911), The Adventures of Miss Gregory (1911), Margaret Harding (1912), The Second-Class Passenger (1913), Those Who Smiled (1920) and Dark Places (1926).
